talent and the body of Christ

I just recently heard the new song from the Good Shepherd Band, the group that creates the amazing music for my brother and sister in law's church down in Indiana.  It's really good.  The sound is captivating.  The singer's voice is incredible and married to the music.  The message is clear and praises all that God is.  It motivates.  It celebrates.  It calls you to praise.  Play it and you'll see what I mean!

A while ago I read a chapter in a book by Joyce Meyer that mentions the body of Christ.  She said she used to envy good musicians whenever she heard them, because she wanted to be a good musician, but wasn't.  Then the concept of the body sank in: God created their talent to bless us.  It is not for them.  Our gifts are not for us but for them, and others.  God has given each of us gifts to uphold each other, spread his good news, and to simply show his beauty by being made in his image.

I used to have this problem, as well.  I'm learning.  If we stop thinking about ourselves and focus on working together, as a body, then we can sit and bask in the beauty God has placed in others, and thank God for his plan, a plan of teamwork, a plan of humility, a plan of love.

Wow. That is so true. I struggle with downplaying my gifts sometimes because I feel self conscious. It's good to remember that God gave me the gift to bless others.
